Haahhahahaha yeah I forgot.
“Not right now” and “You deserve better” and “I’ve got too much going on” actually means No.
Every.
Fucking.
Time.
It means no.
Please, for the love of God will someone please just say no at some point?
Hi. I’m kinda not okay.
And a ziggurat
Coolest pyramid ever.
Mystic, South Dakota
So if anyone doesn’t know, I’ve basically been on a road trip with my mom and grandmother since Friday afternoon. Today, we were driving from Rapid City, SD, to Hill City, SD (at the base of Mt. Rushmore) and almost everything is closed for the season. It’s March, so usually, that’s still winter around here, but this week it’s going to be in the high 60s to low 70s. All week. Bleh.
Anyway, so almost everything is closed, including the Cosmos Mystery Center that I really really really really really want to go to. As we’re driving through Hill City, my mom saw a sign for a town called Mystic, 15 miles away. Joking, and tired of everything being closed, I made the snarky remark that Mystic was probably closed.
My mom said that there was no way an entire town was closed. So that started a running line of jokes and comments all day that Mystic was closed. After we went to see Crazy Horse and try some wine and eat some lunch, my mom decides we’re driving up to Mystic and she’s going to prove to me that it was open.
The road sign said that Mystic, SD was 15 miles up this hill. So we start up. Maybe five or six miles in, the road goes from asphalt to dirt, and let me tell you, my side of the argument is looking pretty strong. I should mention here that these 15 miles are Mountain Miles, involving switch backs and curves and elevation changes and bridges and it takes us maybe… 45 minutes to an hour to get up the mountain/hill. We finally reach a place with a few buildings, a chapel, some mailboxes, and a sign that says it was the site where Mystic was founded in 1860-something and one pointing to the site of the Mystic Trailhead. That’s it. That’s the whole of Mystic, SD.
We went down the road toward the Mystic Trailhead and there were several informational signs (along with a bathroom, a couple little buildings, and a lot of snow that somehow wasn’t melted.) Apparently, Mystic used to be the center of two or three railroads and had a thriving lumber business and sawmill. Key words? Used to. Not anymore. The last line on the last sign was:
“The closing of the sawmill in 1947 marked the end of Mystic as a thriving community.”
the end of Mystic as a thriving community.
the end of Mystic.
Long story short? Mystic was closed.

So. I got some bad news today. And I can’t post it on my regular blog because my cousin follows me and the family can’t know yet.
And blah.
And it sucks.
Mmm. Will be deliciously sore tomorrow.
And am exhausted now.
Good night, Tumblah.
Okay, I blame Nneka for this, but I suddenly feel the need to share some of my photography with you guys. Sorry for the obnoxious watermark, but I’m rather attached to these pictures and don’t want them running off.
